Dental implants are considered the ideal way to replace missing teeth. Other options exist but none that will replace both the missing tooth and the missing root. Replacing the root of the tooth is just as important as replacing the tooth because roots help maintain bone levels around teeth.
By placing an implant in the bone, the level of the bone is maintained and therefore will not recede with time. By replacing only the tooth with a removable appliance or a fixed bridge, the underlying bone will resorb over time creating a space that is sometimes unsightly and usually difficult to clean. Today’s dental implants are very safe and the likelihood of rejection is negligible. Isn’t time you closed your gap?
