PRP (Platelet-Rich Plasma) therapy is a natural product created from your own body. A small amount of blood is drawn from you and placed in a sterile tube that is spun down in a centrifuge to separate the different components of the blood. Red and white blood cells are divided from the platelets and the plasma (the clear fluid). This plasma now contains a higher than normal number of platelets and is called platelet-rich plasma, or PRP. This PRP has up to ten growth factors that cannot be found anywhere else.

By reintroducing a concentration of these growth factors back into your skin, the skin begins to repair and strengthen. The results are natural, glowing, and youthful-looking skin. Why Do Platelets Rejuvenate Skin?

Platelets are the cells in the blood that help tissue to heal and grow new cells. The PRP, injected into specific areas of the skin, act as a matrix that promotes your own collagen to grow, regenerates tissue, and thus acts to naturally smooth and tighten the skin. The Vampire Facial

The PRP Facial, often called the Blood Facial or the Vampire Facial, is a procedure where the microneedling pen is used to open hundreds of tiny channels into the skin. The pen is used in one direction first. Following one pass of the microneedling pen, the patients PRP is placed over the entire face and rubbed in with the fingers to allow the PRP to fill the channels and therefore penetrate through the top layer of the skin. This procedure is done three times with the microneedling pen running in three different directions. The last layer of PRP is placed over the skin after the final pass and the patient is asked to leave it on for six to eight hours or preferably till the next day.

PRP Injections

PRP can also be injected directly into the skin like a filler. The PRP can be heated at a specific temperature or mixed with calcium chloride to give it a thicker consistency. This method adds a small amount of volume but works more specifically to improve the skin tone and texture of the skin. The results are beautiful glowing skin that can be seen within just a few hours of treatment. PRP also stimulates collagen so after 30 days there is an overall improvement of the texture of the skin from greater collagen production.

For patients that need additional volume, a hyaluronic acid (HA) filler like Restylane® or Juvederm® can be injected first. Immediately following, PRP can be placed in the same area to add more volume and improve the complexion and smoothness of the skin.
