Getting Your Teeth Whitened in Miami? Ask These Five Questions before Going Under the Light

Getting Your Teeth Whitened in Miami? Ask These Five Questions before Going Under the Light

Just a few years ago, when a person was unhappy with the color of their teeth there wasn’t much they could do about it. Today, teeth whitening has come a long way. The first step is to decide where to get your teeth whitened. To help you do so, ask the following five questions of anyone you’re considering for the job.

1. What strength will be used?

All teeth whitening processes are not created equally. Your Biscayne dentist will look at your teeth, consider your history, and talk with you about the level of whitening you want. While you do want a smile you can be proud to show off, you don’t want to go overboard and have unnatural looking teeth.

2. What type of teeth whitening process will be used?

You’ve likely seen the products available in your local drug store. You typically leave them on for anywhere from five to 30 minutes. They’re generally either strips or gel trays. These work by restoring your teeth’s enamel by removing debris and dirt. All of these types of products will contain hydrogen peroxide, or some type of compound that works like hydrogen peroxide does, by releasing oxygen molecules in your mouth that will react with staining materials and lift them away.

These hydrogen peroxide options may be right for your teeth, but there are other options to consider as well. Ask your dentist what type of process will be used and why it’s the best option for your teeth.

3. What do I need to do before I get my teeth whitened?

Some people can simply come in and get their teeth whitened while others may have some pre-care instructions to follow. For example, folks who have sensitive teeth may brush with special toothpaste for the weeks leading up to their first whitening appointment. This helps keep the teeth strong and prevent the whitening process from making their teeth more sensitive.

4. Is there an underlying cause for my non-white teeth?

The reality is that our teeth age as we get older – there’s simply no way around it. There are some substances that can make teeth age faster than others, such as acidic beverages like wine or coffee, but there are also various oral health issues that can lead to teeth aging more quickly than they should. Make sure your dentist rules them out before suggesting teeth whitening in Miami.

5. What are my after-care instructions?

You’ll need to know how long you must wait to eat after your teeth whitening, what foods and drinks you should avoid, and whether or not you’ll need to return for future visits. Your dentist should go over all of these details before they begin on the whitening process – not as you’re leaving their office.
