How to Maintain Clean, Healthy Gums while Preventing Gingivitis

What Is Gingivitis?

Gingivitis is a common condition in which gums become inflamed and begin to bleed. It is caused by a thin film of bacteria that builds up over time. Also known as plaque, the film can build up to the point where it causes increased irritation to the gums.   • Poor diet and lack of proper nutrition

How Can Gum Disease Be Prevented?

Gum disease is easily prevented if you know how to properly care for your teeth. Brushing and flossing every day, especially after eating foods that are sweet or sticky, can help reverse gum issues and keep the mouth healthy. Rinsing the mouth with a mouthwash that is approved by the American Dental Association is also an excellent way to reduce plaque build-up.

It is wise to use a toothbrush with soft bristles to prevent tooth abrasion. Patience is truly a virtue when it comes to brushing, as it is extremely important to reach every tooth. Many dentists recommend spending about two minutes brushing every morning and night.
