How We Become Toxic

There are many ways we can become toxic. Let’s start by answering a few questions:

  1. Do you experience fatigue or low energy levels?
  2. Do you eat fast food, fatty foods, pre-prepared foods or fried foods?
  3. Do you drink coffee and sodas during the day to “get you going?”
  4. Do you crave or eat sugary snacks and candy or desserts?
  5. Do you have less than 2 bowel movements per day?

If you answered yes to any of the above questions, that’s your body telling you are building up toxins. But are you listening? Many of us just ignore the signs, while others take pills or drugs to mask the symptoms. Toxins inevitably build up in our bodies from time to time. We have to constantly help our bodies eliminate those toxins.

Toxin build up can occur with constipation, poor diet, lack of water, stress, antibiotics or lack of exercise. The colon is the body’s sewage system. If the system gets backed up, toxins become trapped in your colon. Patients with chronic constipation have toxins fermenting and decaying in the colon and getting reabsorbed into the blood stream, polluting their tissues and cells.

Additionally, a poor diet which includes dead, over cooked, low fiber foods, fried foods, junk food and processed foods can also be toxic. Our society has drifted away from a whole food diet with fruits, vegetables and whole grains. Often times the most convenient things too eat are not the healthiest. As a result, we consume food devoid of nutrients and cause toxic build up.

We’ve all heard to drink eight glasses of water a day. But is that really enough? We should actually drink half our body weight in ounces. That means a 140 lb individual should consume 70 ounces of water per day equivalent to 8.75 cups of water. Our bodies are made up of 65 – 75 % water. It’s only logical that you should be constantly replenishing your body of its main ingredient.

Stress can also cause toxic build up. Stress impacts every cell and tissue in the human body. Stress breaks down the immune system as well as all the major organs. Stress, in any form is TOXIC to our bodies.

Antibiotics, despite their benefits in fighting bacterial infections, have a damaging effect on the intestines. The root word biotics means life. The word antibiotic means anti-life because it kills both the healthy and the unhealthy bacteria in the intestines. This will leave your immune system weak and more susceptible to toxic build up.

Finally a lack of exercise also builds up toxins. Exercise strengthens our entire bodies. It stimulates the circulatory and lymphatic system, building muscles and stimulating nerves, glands, lungs, heart, brain, mind and mood.
